It was meant to be a simple and quite saturday afternoon quidditch practice. However some idiot had managed to double book the pitch and so it had to be shared. Ravenclaw and Slytherin. A sort of match, if you would. It had all gone wrong though.
Before they knew it they players had landed on the pitch and had taken at each other. Zara had landed herself and run over to break them up because this was not what Quidditch was about. If they wanted to fight they should have taken it out on the brooms for the love of Merlin. Matt had also stuck himself in the middle of the players an in the end both of them had come off worse than anyone else.
Professor Wallace's new rule meant that because of the supposed fist fight they had been involved it they had to spend a night in the hospital wing without treatment. And it was painful.
Zara was laying on the bed angry inside at her teammates. "I swear to Merlin they will be doing suicide drills for the next few months."

Matt was irritated beyond belief. he'd spent his morning getting his team pumped up for the year and in the end not only had it backfired hard. he'd ended up with a broken wrist and sprained shoulder because his idiot team couldn't keep themselves distracted for all of five seconds so he could figure something out with Zara. he'd had to get in between his team and Ravenclaws just to keep from having more broken bones or shattered brooms. his broom. now that was going to get his team doing some punishments. he'd lost his broom in the ensuing scrap. broken into four pieces he wasn't the happiest of campers right now. not to mention that both he and Zara had their wands removed so they couldn't even use magic to lessen the pain. although it felt odd to Matt. almost like a piece of his soul was now missing

Zara turned slightly to look at the bed next to her. Matt had been brought up here too but he was awfully quiet. She sat up slowly and looked at him. "I'm sorry about my team." She had no idea what had started it or who but she was happy enough to apologise because none of them had gained out of it. "How's your wrist?" It was looking rather swollen.
Zara had only bruised and cut and was very thankful that nothing was broken. Her legs dangled off the bed. She and Matt had spoken before. Most off the time he was an arsehole, but she liked him. Something about his blunt way made him somewhat attractive but it seemed like that was all he ever was and she was getting tired of hanging around waiting to see if he was interested.

He sighed as he looked over at Zara. Still laying down he frowned. "well, I think it's broken." he said as he started to sit up. Using his other hand he sighed. "What about you? Anything serious?" he asked as he looked her over. Swinging his legs out of bed. Grateful he was wearing pants. He checked his hand slightly. He was able to flex his fingers but couldn't move his wrist without wincing. "Sorry about the mess." he said as he looked at her. Sounding sincere in his apology.

"Don't move it because you'll end up making it worse." Zara told him. Surely they weren't going to make them sit there all night with nothing. "I'm ok. Just a few bruises and cuts." It was nothing she wasn't used to. Zara shook that thought out of her head and then Matt apologised. Her brow furrowed at the unusual turn of events but she didn't question it. "It's fine. I guess we'll just have to talk to them all about good sportsmanship."

Matt looked at her and nodded. "A nice... LONG talk." he said as he looked at her. His eyes not really wanting to meet hers. "How have you been?" He asked. "Haven't really had a chance to talk to you since the letters this summer." he said as he smiled. Something that would probably throw her off. Having never smiled around her before. "Meet anyone new?" he asked as he sat there.

Zara kicked her legs slightly and shrugged, "I've not been too bad." It was true. They had not really spoken since starting back at Hogwarts but she had promised not to chase. If he was interested he could show it or she wouldn't waste time. Not really. Spent my summer helping Jason at work and with Bert." The summer had been relatively boring. "What about you? Do anything? Meet anyone?"

"Just a few friends. They go here." he said as he frowned. He didn't know why he was calling them friends when they followed him around like lapdogs doing everything he said. "How is your brother?" he asked. His eyes looking up at hers as he smiled. "Still being a bit of a pain?" he asked her. Getting up from his bed he moved over to her bed and sat down next to her so they weren't talking from across the room to each other.

Zara nodded at his reply. Matt usually had people around him. It made it hard to talk to him since she had the vibe a few of them didn't like her very much. "Jason isn't too bad actually. Moody as usual but I think I'm just used to it now." Zara would not say much against Jase because he had basically raised her and she would be forever grateful to him. Matt sat himself next to her and she looked at him. "How are classes going?" It was all small talk but he didn't seem as sharp as usual and that was what was nice about this small conversation.

Matt smiled at her softly. "Well, I guess things just are getting better in a way." he said as he looked at her. He sighed as he leaned back against the foot rest. "Well, Would you like to do something after we get out of here. Maybe pick up breakfast or something. I'm not really sure I want to head back to the commons just yet." he said. His eyes closed as he relaxed. "If not I understand." he said.

Zara looked at him and thought for a moment. He seemed completely different to what he usually was. "I think I could do with some breakfast." Zara said to him giving him a small and gentle nudge. "Why are you such an ass around everyone else?" Zara asked him with a frown. Alone he seemed perfectly fine. Like a genuinely nice person. She couldn't understand why people made him become so horrible.

He smiled and looked at her. "I don't actually know really." he said to her as he frowned. "Seems things just end up happening around me that end up badly." he said simply. "Either that or they just don't go well for the people I associate with." he said. NOt wanting to bring up that he was the one who formed a new organization in the school. For reasons he couldn't remember at the moment.

”You should trying being like this more often. It’s easier to talk to you and a lot less tiring.” She had heard of whispers from the Slytherins about what Matt got up to. Most of the whispers revolved around dark arts and sometimes she could believe the rumours because of how he behaved. He was a more complex character than what he just put across to people that was for sure.
Zara reached up and pushed some of his hair off his forehead before giving him a smile. She didn’t want to like him. Z had been perfectly happy on her own but interacting with him had changed that. ”I mean I don’t mind putting up with you however you are but it’s nice to see you can be human sometimes.”

"It's easier then it sounds." he said as he looked over at her. "Trying to be a good guy is just annoying." he said softly. His eyes not really looking at hers as he tried to figure it all. He was a lot more complicated then just being able to be good or bad. His mind was still trying to figure out why he wasn't being his normal self right now. Why he was letting her get this close when all he needed to do was control her to achieve the same things. But those thoughts were fleeting as he felt her hand brush his hair off his forehead. His eyes opening again he nodded. "It's nice to be able to actually talk to someone." he said.

"How is it annoying?" Zara asked with a laugh. "I think a smile is easier than a scowl." She wanted him to be like this more often. "It's nice to have you talk." she told him simply. Zara's hand slipped to rest on his cheek for a few seconds. She then felt her face flush pink and then pulled her hand away and let it rest in her lap. No, she wanted to play it cool. Let him make the effort for once. Especially since he seemed to be in a better mood.
